Day 2: Grado – Salas

Today I walked from Grado to Salas about  22.2 km.
I stood up and then started to walk at about 7.00. Almost one hour later I saw the sunrise.

The ups and downs make it harder then the distance seems to be.
The most interesting church looks old and is closed.

I have not booked today and the first albergue is full (completo). The second is full as well and as I wanted to go, the hospitalera looks in her book again and says: It is an mistake, one bed is still free.
I ate in another albergue with 2 Dutch, 2 Belgian and 2 Austrian pilgrims. It was fun and now I will post this and then I will go to bed.

1st day – Oviedo to Grado

I went from Oviedo to Grado about 25 km. There are many well-tasting blackberries. I think they have more sun than in Germany and more rain than in the Tuscany.
With the hills and the rain from the sea it looks a little bit like Bavaria close to the mountains.

There are many cats and I miss my cat.

In the sun of the early afternoon I am glad that I arrive… I feel that my feet are less trained than at the end of my two last caminos.

Traveling to Oviedo

Today I went by car with my family to the airport of Munich. After saying good-bye I took my flight to Bilbao. I had checked in online and my Spanish Health Travel App knew already that I was vaccinated… So I had no problems at the air port. I liked the flight and my window seat as I do not fly often. This was somewhere in France…

The bus from the airport drove to the bus station Bilbao intermodal…. And from there the Alsa bus to Oviedo.

The cathedral of Oviedo was already closed.

Flight booked

I have booked the flight for September the 2nd to September the 18th weeks ago. It looked good then… Less good in the meantime with high covid numbers… But better now and I am vaccinated two times since last August the 6th.

So I will see… and can test my wordpress blog from my smartphone again with this post while being on holiday in Tuscany.

12th day: Forest – Lindau – Munich

Today it was not far to go to Lindau.
Here I could see the lake Bodensee for the first time.

I got my last stamp in the church in Lindau, had lunch and did a little bit of sight seeing in Lindau.

Then I went to Munich by train.

If I find the right words, I will write something about the Camino ‚magic‘ in the next days… why I went more than one time.

11th day: Simmerberg – Forest

Most of the pilgrims I met have only time to walk until today and want to walk to Lindau. This is a long walk for one day and I have got time until tomorrow. My sister E. slept this year one day in the forest. I have the equipment in my backpack but I have not tested that equipment. So I thought I want to try it this night.

I walked with M. to Scheidegg and then we had to say goodbye… maybe and hopefully we see us again.

I had lunch together with 2 wasps.

There were waterfalls…

I searched for a place for the night and I found one.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leave_No_Trace

Leave no trace… So that the place looks the next morning as nothing has happened.

10th day: Weitnau – Simmerberg

M. asked if we could go together today because has has no maps and gpx tracks on his smartphone. And today the description in his guide book is not clear. So we walked together…

We saw happy cows, a tractor rally and churches.

I did not book a room because I did not know exactly how to plan the last days… but there was still a place for me in the Gasthaus Krone where M. slept. So we ate together and talked a lot.

8th day: Geisenried – Kempten

From the fog in the morning to the blue sky.

In the Kempter Wald (forest of Kempten) there is the Waldkapelle.

There was the pilgrim M. We walked together for some time. He asked where to get the Camino shell… and so I gave him my second one as a present.

In the evening we ate together at the ‚Goldene Traube‘.

In the evening I met K., a friend of my wife B. and me… we talked a lot and I could sleep in her house.

Thank you very much, K.!

7th day: Lechbruck am See – Geisenried

Today I went on the Auerberg. You could not look very far, but the church is open.

There are not only cows but also horses…

Elfie’s Pilgerquartier in Marktoberdorf is booked out… so I go a little bit further to Geisenried that the way to Kempten is shorter tomorrow. After more than 30km and the way up to the Auerberg I am glad to arrive. In the evening I am part of the group of regulars (Stammtisch) in Geisenried.
